U.S. History:

Today we will have a brief introduction to class (pretty much a recap from the open house last week) in which I will explain my class expectations, discuss what we’ll be studying during the year, answer questions, and pass out textbook home copy forms.

  • Parents, please read and sign the home copy forms as soon as possible and get them back to me.  I would like to have all the textbooks passed out by the end of the week :)   Please email me with questions

Digital Productions:

U.S. History:

Today we’ll be playing “Meety Greety” as a way for our class to get to know one another better.  Granted, many of the students already know each other, but we generally have a few new students (more this year than most years from what I hear), and I know very few of the students at the start of the year, so it is good for all of us.  I will know all of your first names by Friday…..You can test me on that!

Digital Productions:

Meety Greety, Same as above.  Sorry if you already played in a different class…..again, the game isn’t just for the students, it’s actually necessary for me.  How would you feel if I couldn’t remember your name half way into the marking period? :)

U.S. History (2nd-5th Hours):

Following the completion of the meety greety game (We generally don’t finish on the first day of Meety Greety), I’ll be presenting a short lecture on the 3 reasons I feel it is important to study history.  In that lecture I will talk about some specific eras we’ll be covering and we’ll have a discussion time for the students.  Note taking is recommended -  No homework will be assigned.

Digital Productions (6th Hour):

Following Meety Greety, we’ll dive right into planning for the yearbook.  In the next few days we will hammer out a very specific schedule for when certain pages will need to be done.  How they get done and what they look like will come later, the schedule is the only thing that matters at this point.

U.S. History:

Today in class we corrected our homework.  Grades will be posted in the morning.  Following homework correction we took a few notes on why we study history.

  1. Learn from the mistakes of the past
  2. To be inspired
  3. Though history can be boring and a drag, it is far worse to forget it all together.  “the only thing worse than Nostalgia is Amnesia”

We discussed the reading of Chapter 5 Section 1 briefly and will pick back up on that tomorrow in class.  There was no Homework

Digital Productions:

Today in class we again discussed the yearbook cover design.  I showed the students how to save files from the camera to the computer and how to keep files organized. (We will be practicing this all year)

Today in U.S. History the students worked on an outline map activity.  This will help them become more familiar with the important centers during the Colonial Period we are studying.  If they didn’t finish in the 45 minutes of work time they were given today, the assignment was homework and will be due tomorrow.

Digital Productions:

We disucsssed and practiced caption writing and questioning techniques for interviews.

I apologize, but for some reason, my website is inaccessible at the moment.  I will try and get it up and running in the next few days.  Thanks for your patience

Today we picked up on our discussion of Civic Virtue and Republican Government.  Although I had planned to cover “Constitutional Government” today as well, our discussion on Civic Virtue took the entire hour.  I will likely have a short quiz tomorrow regarding the concepts we’ve been discussing.  I just need to see what the kids are picking up on and what they aren’t.  There was no homework
